Guide for beginners - tours in and around Hamburg part 2

Road bike training course in the north of Hamburg, over Poppenbüttel, Sasel, Duvenstedt and Norderstedt back via Schnelsen. Once it gets windy on the Elbe, it's better to move away from the water. Because driving along the Elbe dyke in strong winds is definitely not one of your favorite disciplines.
In our Guide for beginners - tours in and around Hamburg we want you ours Tour Recommendations give. Road bike beginners in particular often face this hurdle, but it's actually quite simple. Each of us knows his ghetto, his city best and you can just sit on your racing bike and start riding. You only need the following:
  • Time! Don't feel rushed, training under time pressure is stupid and you can't concentrate enough on your training
  • Courage to experiment! Vary your rounds that you already know and also vary the rounds that we recommend to YOU. You will see that you are always discovering new corners
  • Sign up for Strava! Strava is not only fun because you can chase segments and follow others, you can also see where other road cyclists are riding in your area
Today you should get a new tip from us!

Heading north on a racing bike

I admit, I'm actually more drawn to the south of Hamburg. Along the Elbe or a beautiful tour in the heath is simply unbeatable for me, but the north is also very beautiful. You just have to drive a little further until it gets nice. Since last time I made sure to give a direction that you can vary as you wish, I would like to do it again today.

Let's start in the center of Hamburg

For me, as always, it starts in the center of Hamburg. Rough direction is Hudtwalkerstraße/Bebelallee. My goal is definitely to drive at Ring 2 along Bebelallee in the direction of Poppenbüttel, there is a cycle path on the road and it is possible to cycle comfortably in the direction of Ohlsdorf. It goes past the numerous allotment associations to the Ohlsdorf train station and Ohlsdorf cemetery. At the cemetery you have to turn left and at the next crossroads turn right in the direction of Poppenbüttel/Sasel. The distance from the city center until you are really out of Hamburg is of course longer than if you drive south. But once you're there Wohldorf forest arrived, a beautiful North German landscape opens up in front of you.

At this point you have the possibility to keep links and over Norderstedt and Schnelsen back to drive into the city, on this route you get approx. 50km together. Because of the long route through Hamburg, it's actually not worth turning back and the many traffic lights up to Ohlsdorf mess up the average (km/h).
From here you can easily scale your road bike lap, because if you ride further north you can do a nice tour Bad Segeberg by the Holstein Switzerland do. In the Holstein Switzerland, the route also gets a wavy profile. I haven't ridden the big tour via Bad Segeberg yet, but I've made up my mind to do it in April.
The way back on the western side via Schelsen isn't exciting, but it's pretty fast. Here you can correct your pace up a bit. In the end you should come to 110km to 130km.

Conclusion

If you decide to go north, it will take a little longer to get out of the city. In addition, it's just something different and you sometimes see forest and hills and not always just the dike.
