Komoot - The cyclist's best friend

Komoot is my favorite app and website for planning tours with my racing bike. If you want to discover and ride the best road bike routes and also want to synchronize them with your Wahoo Elemnt, you can't get past Komoot.

Komoot is the road cyclist's best friend

When I started racing, every route was new to me. I've often attached myself to other racing cyclists and have always discovered new routes in this way. By the third year at the latest actually more in the second, but you know pretty much everything in your area. At this point, Komoot can remedy the situation immediately. Of course not only here. With Komoot every route can be planned wonderfully and I have never been disappointed.

I have already discovered beautiful stretches that I must have passed several times before. I'm always surprised at what Komoot pulls out of a hat for me!

Design your house round

When you have driven your own home circuit for the hundredth time, it can get boring. If you sometimes feel like this, or if you just feel like trying something new, then take a look at the Komoot app or the website komoot.de. With Komoot, popular tours and routes in your area are displayed directly on the Discover page, sorted by bike type, of course. I'm concentrating on cycling here. If you already know all these routes, then you can use the route planner.

  • Find a destination that is in your area
  • Enter your starting location
  • Choose round trip

Now you have the possibility to change the route, you do this by clicking somewhere on the route, holding it and then dragging in a direction.

Easily change the routing by moving the track!

Komoot always chooses the best road bike routes for you, preferably on back roads with smooth surfaces. Especially on the outskirts of big cities, you end up on streets that you didn't even know existed and that are simply perfect.

Plan your tours

ATTENTION! YOU CAN GET ADDICTED TO KOMOOT FROM HERE!!!

If Komoot is on your training tours already helped, you will now fall in love with Komoot.

My tour in the Harz

Last May I drove from Hamburg to Lamspringe to visit my sister. Lamspringe is on the edge of the Harz Mountains, so I didn't have to cycle over the mountains first, but was allowed to get along with the Harz forerunners.

So at Komoot I have start and finish entered and I was done. my Wahoo Element Bolt syncs completely automatically with Komoot, so I always have all planned tours directly on my Bike Computer. Now all you have to do is start cycling!

The route that Komoot had chosen was just great. There are so many beautiful roads in the heath, off the country road, that it is hard to believe that you have driven so far. Seriously, it's the best way to travel!

  • 209 km from A to B
  • 1030m up
  • 800m down

TRAIL TYPES

Single trail: < 100 m
Bike path: 47,8 km
Access road: < 100 m
Way: 3,80 km
Secondary road: 15,5 km
Road: 126 km
Federal highway: 16,1 km

ROUTE CONDITION

Loose ground: < 100 m
Pavement: 1,14 km
Road surface: 44,1 km
Asphalt: 164 km
Unknown: <100m

As you can see: Even after planning, you get a pretty accurate overview of the route that awaits you. Roads, underground (however, the worst case is shown here) and other route properties. This is great for planning!

Komoot at races and marathons

Even if the routes are usually well signposted at major racing bike events, I find a navigation system on the handlebars to be very helpful. First I have mine Element Bolt Always on the handlebars anyway and on the other hand I can better assess the course of the route with the navigation system. I don't know the routes of most races, RTF and marathons from that FF. I usually find myself in unfamiliar areas. Above all, knowing when and where the next corner is coming or how long the climb is still incredibly helpful.

In the most common cases, most cycle race organizers also offer the route as a GPX to download at. You can easily import this file into Komoot, view the entire route profile and synchronize it with your bike computer. I think the advantage is obvious and quickly understood.

Conclusion

Komoot has become my constant companion! It doesn't matter if I have one cycling tours plan ahead or want to take a different route en route. It just works great. Syncing with my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt is smooth and no other route planner I know comes close to Komoot. The route planners from Google or Strava don't even come close to the quality that the Komoot route planner offers.
