Exercise with a cold

Can I exercise with a cold? Can I train with a cold? How long do I have to wait after a cold before I can exercise again? All of these questions plague us, especially during the transitional period, when one catches a cold particularly often. I've just had a series of colds and am therefore particularly interested in this topic at the moment and have done some research.

My cold series

I've had a cold three times in the last seven weeks and I think it's partly my fault. I'll briefly explain the classic mistake I made. After my first cold, because that's all it was, I took a week's break before I got back on my racing bike. As usual, I took part in club training on Tuesdays and of course I wanted to ride in the fast group, it was a stupid idea. I felt fine during the training. Only in the airways did I notice that the air seemed a little cooler. The bill came the famous three days later, the cold came back.

Similar game, but this time two weeks later. Everything went well during training and three days later the cold came back. Unfortunately this time really crisp. I finally lay flat because my body wanted to force me to take a proper break. This time I have four weeks break to have to do.

The result was bronchitis

So now I've caught a nasty bronchitis. My doctor wrote me off sick and I was bored at home. You have to know that I never actually take sick leave because I get bored quickly at home. Now I dragged the acute bronchitis around with me for a week and it was still in my lungs in the second week. Really sucks and a four-week break is definitely too long.

What can happen if you don't cure the cold

I did some research online and looked up the consequences of colds.

  • The common cold can become chronic
  • Muscle problems can arise
  • pneumonia can result
  • even the heart muscle can become inflamed

I was knocked out for a total of 8 weeks by a stupid cold and meanwhile autumn has come to Hamburg. I have to admit, I'm sort of out now.

How's the winter going now?

I've since started weight training at the gym again. It's full body training and muscle building again. I would like to thank you for the next Transcontinental Race (TCR), the application process starts in November and I hope I get a starting place. I know this is an insane undertaking. But I would like to give myself three weeks for the 4.000 km and I only register if the route suits me. I will not sign up if I will feel endangered in the countries.

Depending on whether I will be successful in registering, I will then plan my winter and spring program.

Now it's time to stay healthy and have a good start into the winter.
